Introduction to Craps: Basic Rules

Craps is one of the really exciting games you'll ever play in a casino. You can readily tell if a group of players is playing craps whenever you hear them shouting and yelling. Here are the basic rules of craps.

Let's start on rules where most of the action actually begins, the shooter. The shooter is the player who gets to roll the dice during a round of craps. Players take turns being shooter as the game goes along. A lot of the action centers around what numbers come up.

Since when you play craps you might have the chance of being the shooter. Here are rules on handling the dice. If you get to be the shooter during a round of craps remember that you can only hold or handle the dice with only one hand. When you roll the dice, make sure they hit the opposite end of the table. If ever you throw the dice off the table they need to be inspected before being allowed on the table. The rules on handling the dice concern avoiding cheating.

It's perfectly fine to decline being shooter for a round, but you can bet on the new shooter. Now, let's move on with the next set of craps rules.

Every game of craps start with the first roll, which is called the come out roll. Each new game of craps starts with a come out roll and a new shooter. We get to make a new come out roll in craps only if the current shooter fails to come up with a seven or a point. A point in craps is a dice roll that totals to four, five, six, eight, nine and ten.

Next set of craps rules deals with the bets we can make in a round. Here are some craps bets we can make.

First craps bet is a pass line bet. You win if the dice total to seven or 11. You lose if it turns up to two, three, or 12. If a point comes up, the dice are rolled again. If a seven comes up first before the point, you lose.

Next craps bet is the come bet. This is pretty much like the pass line; the difference is that you can only make this bet after the point has been made. Much like making an additional craps bet.

Place bets can be made only after the point is made in craps. You bet on a four, five, six, eight, nine, and ten. You win if your number comes up before a seven.

Craps is a pretty exciting game. You might feel overwhelmed at the action if you play it for the first time. What we've mentioned will help you through your first few craps games.
